The upper level deck or front porch are nice places to eat one of the grill's homemade pizzas, gourmet salads and buffalo burgers. They even offer "fleischkeuchle," seasoned ground meat wrapped and baked in bread dough, as a nod to North Dakota's German-Russian heritage.

Anyone with ravenous teens can get their money's worth at the buffet-style Chuck Wagon with breakfast, lunch and dinner. It serves up omelets, waffles, a salad bar, entrees and a few desserts that can be eaten inside or out on the patio. It's also is a gathering place for Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation folks, so kids might find themselves dining across from Chinese acrobats guest-starring in the Medora Musical.

This classic downtown cafe serves up comfort food such as omelets, sandwiches and soups, but is best known for its popular hot beef sandwich that's slathered with mashed potatoes and gravy.

Both a meal and event, this tradition starts at 6:30 p.m. so there is time for the Medora Musical across the parking lot. It's a bit spendy at $6 for hot dogs and $21 to $26 for steak or ribeye, but it's like real estate in that diners pay for the spectacular view high above town. The fixin's include beans, Texas toast, potatoes, fruit and brownies.
