First Overnight Stay

by AshleyHess

My husband got this hotel through a Priceline Express Deal, meaning we didn't know what hotel we would be staying at until after he booked it. Our rate ended up being $97/night, before taxes and fees brought our total closer to $140, for 1 room with a king bed. Upon check in, we were told that self-parking is $48/night. I'm not sure if my husband overlooked that detail on Priceline when he booked, but we were extremely caught off-guard by that price to park!*

As for the hotel itself, be prepared to navigate through a maze! We parked in the garage prior to checking in, then had to figure out how to get to the lobby that is oddly located on the 8th floor. Staff was friendly. The hotel is exceptionally clean and quiet where we were located on the 5th floor. Our room was on the smaller side, but that was expected given that we booked through Priceline. There was a mini refrigerator, coffee bar, and ample closet space. The bed was comfortable, although we would have preferred an extra blanket in the room. I cannot speak to the food or other amenities in the hotel as we really just crashed here after a long day of exploring D.C., but we were happy with our stay overall.

This hotel is fairly close to a metro station. We opted to Uber, but I figured that is worth mentioning for those who prefer that method of transportation. There are also many different food options within walking distance. Conveniently located!

*Note: I have looked back through our Priceline itinerary and can't find any parking information listed, so be mindful if you go that route. The price *is* listed directly on the Marriott Wardman Park hotel website. The clearance of the garage is 5 feet 10 inches; our Dodge Durango fit, but it was close!

VIPKid Conference

by mlc2791

Wife attended a conference here so we spent the night, using the conference rate of $150ish. When she checked in she asked about our car parked in their parking garage - are we ok to stay in the garage until the conference is over the following day? - ‘yes, yes no problem, keep a room key and that will let you out of the garage’. 5:30pm rolls around and we are in the car heading to the exit, swipe the room key - nothing, gate wont budge. Again, nothing. 40 minutes later, ever lengthening line of cars behind us, finally a guy shows up to let us out. We called 4 times during that 40 minutes, were hung up on every time, the first time my wife got someone to answer we were told “oh the room keys stop working at 5...’. Second call - “oh we can see on the camera cars lined up behind you, but the parking guy will have to come help you”... Call 3 and 4 - is anyone coming to help, other people are getting out of there car and harassing us about leaving? again with - ”we can see them, and someone from parking must be headed that way because they are not up here”...Suffice to say, we will not stay here again. Bed was fine, room was fine, no free WiFi (really?!? who does that?!?)
