Planning & Tips
The vast majority of the families who come and stay in the homes or condos travel by car, so they bring their own shovels, pails, goggles, tennis racquets and other vacation necessities. There are shops on the premises as well as nearby restaurants, grocery stores and stores for every need.

The Art of Smart Timing
The resort is seasonal with lower rates in the fall and winter months, so there are deals to be had. For instance, there are discounts if you are a Florida resident, a member of the military or government, or want to stay mid-week. There are also various promotional stays that you can find out more about on their web site. The resort also offers several holiday options and activities.

Getting There
Most drive via 30-A, northwest Florida's main road that goes right by the resort. For those looking for some driving perspective, the resort is 306 miles from Atlanta; 297 from Birmingham, Ala., 517 from Memphis, 485 from Nashville and 278 from New Orleans.

For those flying, the Northwest Florida Beach International Airport near Panama City is served by Delta and Southwest Airlines and is about a half-hour drive from the resort. Another option is the Northwest Florida Regional Airport near Ft. Walton Beach, which is serviced by American Eagle, US Airways and Delta and is about a 45-minute drive. Pensacola Regional Airport is about 90-minutes west of Santa Rosa and is serviced by several airlines including AirTran, American Eagle, Continental, Comair, Delta, Northwest and US Airlines.

For Mom and Dad
Need a little alone time? Well, you don't have to go far from home as the resort's signature restaurant; Fish Out of Water is one of the most romantic dining spots in Northwest Florida. Whether you want a specialty drink, appetizers from the raw bar or superb cuisine, Fish Out of Water is your place. Top it off with an after-dinner drink by the outdoor fire pit.

But, if you insist on leaving the resort and want some local seafood in a down-home, seaside-casual atmosphere, try the Hurricane Oyster Bar in Brayton Beach North. Hidden away in a little strip center near the resort, the Hurricane Oyster Bar features cheap but high-quality oysters and cheap beer. Want to watch a ballgame? Then have a seat, there's plenty of TV sets, including on the outside patio.

Another suggestion is The Red Bar on the beach in Grayton, which is popular with locals and tourists alike. The Red Bar features live music -- including its own in-house jazz band and local band favorites; the Dread Clampitt also frequently plays here. In addition to an eclectic atmosphere, The Red Bar offers simple but varied menu items including pasta with crayfish and shrimp, stuffed eggplant, crab cakes and panne chicken and mashed potatoes.

Voted "The Best Place to Go Dancing" by "Emerald Coast Magazine," The Village Door is Destin's hottest live-music dance club. It's the perfect place to let go of inhibitions and dance the night away.
