We stayed in the Welk Resort located in Escondido, about 30 mins. from San Diego. It is set against the hills, beautiful property, landscaped grounds.

There are 2 parts to this resort: the Villas on the Green and the Mountain more +Villas. The Mountain Villas are new/renovated. The Villas on the Green are older, however we didn't see these rooms so not sure what they are like.

There are different rooms, so make sure you clarify the room description. We rented a "deluxe 1 bedroom Mountain Villa" , gorgeous decor, spa shower, full kitchen. ground level , huge patio. 1 bedroom with king bed, jacuzzi tub, fireplace, tv/dvd player . The pull out sofa in living room was very comfortable, had it's own flat screen tv and dvd player, my kids loved it!

Beautiful pool with waterfall, landscaped. There were plenty of lounge chairs/umbrellas. Waterslide, waterpark for the kids. There are about 5 different pools and recreation centres on the property, offering activities all day long. We didn't do any of the activities as our kids were too busy enjoying the pool.

We drove to Legoland twice, it is about 30 minutes drive. We drove to Disneyland, about 1 & 1/2 hours from Escondido.

You definitely need a rental car if you stay at this property as there are no stores close by, the closest one is about a 5 minute drive. I would suggest you load up on supplies at the off site store, as the on site one is very small and expensive.

The restaurant was good, nothing fancy, basic food. Kids menu is limited but sufficient. They usually have a 'kids eat free' deal, so 2 kids per villa can eat free once daily. They also have a Pizza Hut on site for that take out pizza craving.

Yes they want you to do a 'time share tour', but we just said 'no' and they were fine with it. Still treated us great after.

We loved this property. It was kid friendly, but still a 5 star resort, gorgeous decor and landscaping. Friendly, helpful staff.
