Reviews

Vacation, October 2019

by vacayeastcoast

I have never written a review but this hotel deserves details of a recent trip. The weather was very nice for late October which was great.
Our Westgate Resort experience in Myrtle Beach was a different story. The pictures on the brochure/website are very misleading. Our room was like a cave - even the staff member who took us to our room said' this is really dark. But there is a beautiful view from the bedroom. " Our bedroom was on the other side of the bathroom. There was a sofa in the small living area and adequate but not comfortable. The dining table was 2 ft. by 2 ft. with 2 chairs. We had a small balcony from the BR where we could see the ocean.
The walls are paper thin. We heard a phone conversation from the room next door. There was also a Sales Rep. showing people around and we heard the entire pitch. There was always conversations in the A.M. and evening.
The telephone was not in working order, and when reported, nothing changed to correct it.
There was major construction on the site and we were not informed about it . Two pools were closed, and the access to the beach was totally blocked eliminating hotel access. We had to walk entirely arouund the complex to reach the beach.
One day there was constant, loud, hammering and sawing near or above our room. Again, there was no notice to us of this disruption to our holiday.
The kitchen sink drained slowly and the bathroom plunger did not hold water in the sink.
We planned our trip several months in advance. All I can say that I wish we had read the 4 other Trip Advisor reviews from October 2019 and we would have cancelled our planned stay at this resort.
We will never return to this hotel and lesson learned, research a resort thoroughly that you have never been to before. I would not call this place a resort, it was a hotel room.

Wasted Trip, Time and $$$

Planned a trip to the beach for the wife's birthday, needed a per friendly resort and unfortunately, I chose the Westgate in Myrtle Beach. We arrived to find construction going on everywhere at the resort , pools and lazy river were shut down for renovations, only one elevator was accessible, couldnt walk through the pool area to access the beach and the pu lic access was pretty much blocked with construction vehicles. I read another review about the Westgate that mentioned the construction, the resort replied that a third party booking agent should have told them about the issues, I BOOKED DIRECTLY WITH WESTGATE, it was not mentioned when I booked nor was it mentioned 3 days ago when I called the MB location directly to confirm everything was good and it wasn't mentioned then either nor is it noted on the website. Not to mention the 25 plus year old Holiday Inn features in the rooms. I know it seems like I'm dogging them, I feel I should have been notified prior to arrival and given opportunity to cancel check the photos. . .
