Our stay at the Westin Bayshore was very pleasant and quiet. The beautiful surroundings of the waterfront and Stanley Park kept our kids occupied looking out of the large windows wherever we were in the hotel. We were warmly greeted and
more +efficiently checked in to the hotel and even up-graded as it was not a particularly busy weekend. The hotel has been through extensive renovations and were still working on some while we were there, but this did not significantly impact our stay. The hotel was clean, bright and calm. Our kids were given Westin Kids' Club packs with stickers, postcards to colour, stencils, and a hat. It also included references for local attractions in the Vancouver area to check out.
Our room with 2 queen beds was spotless and modern with all the usual amenities presented in an upgraded manner. A nice sized bathroom was more than ample to get all three kids bathed and tidied during our stay without feeling cramped. A very comfortable cot was accommodated in the room, though this did make the window-end a little cramped.
The kids loved the pools and the gym was well supplied with good quality, new cardio and workout equipment.
Although the menus of both The Currents and The Seawall Bar/Grill establishments in the hotel looked downright mouthwatering, the thought of subjecting other diners to a young family of three boys for a meal in relatively quite settings did not appeal to us, nor did the very hefty prices at especially The Currents restaurant. Luckily, Starbucks was located conveniently just off the lobby so take-and-go coffees, chocolate croissants and yogurt satisfied the morning desires. We were never around the hotel at lunch or dinner time and ate out, but would likely not have stayed at the hotel for these meals given their pricing.
One of the down sides of this hotel is that it is a little more off the beaten path to areas such as Robson Street shopping, English Bay, Yaletown and Gastown for the smallest kids to walk to. We drove to the Robson area to be more centrally located and this suited us well. It was very convenient, however to just step out the door and onto the Seawall which takes you around the majestic Stanley Park.
All in all, this was a beautiful hotel which genuinely seemed to welcome families with young children. We would stay there again, especially if we got the great rate that we did again, but count on going off site for meals and likely driving to your activities if you have young kids.
