About The Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa, Grand Cayman
The Casuarina, also known as an Austrian Pine, is an evergreen with long, breezy needles found throughout the Cayman Islands and especially along Seven Mile Beach. Its wispy gentleness combines with the natural and native strength of tropical palm trees, which surround the Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa.
This is a traditional Westin property with all of its elegance and attention to detail, despite the understated entrance to the resort via West Bay Road. That's because the showcase is the east side, facing Seven Mile Beach and the Caribbean. Throughout the day, the water's edge is a non-stop line of walkers and joggers exploring every inch of those perfect seven miles. The Westin, like most other hotels, has put its decorating and landscaping dollars here, where it gets the most traffic.
Beaches are all public in the Cayman Islands, thus creating some great people-watching opportunities on Seven Mile Beach. However, the beach staff at the Westin takes great care in keeping its little slice of heaven immaculately groomed and assuring that all lounge chairs and umbrellas are dedicated to the guests at the Westin.
Built in1997, the Westin survived the direct hit of Hurricane Ivan in 2004 with minimal damage, a testament to the overall construction quality of the property. It has been upgraded and improved several times since, including new carpeting through in the summer of 2011. The horseshoe shape allows for 190 of the 340 rooms to be categorized as oceanfront or ocean view. Therefore the pools and outdoor dining areas are tucked inside the U-shape and opening up to the ocean beyond.
The east facing view makes getting up for sunrise on vacation an experience worth setting the alarm for.
