We stayed at the Westin Kaanapali Villas for 1 week arriving Feb 18th. We stayed in a one Bedroom Premium Villa. It is a beautiful resort, with a wonderful staff. Our room was well appointed and beautifully decorated. The Heavenly Beds are extremely more +comfortable and the kids slept well on the sofa bed. We asked for bathrobes and a comforter for the sofa bed, all were provided promptly. No request was ever met with a poor attitude. Nothing was too much for the staff to provide. We had a mid-week cleaning as timeshare owners, and the staff did a great job.

The grounds a pools are gorgeous and well maintained. One of the pools has a great water slide for the kids. The resort is split up into 2 sections, but feels like one resort. Both lobbies are beautiful with plenty of staff to answer questions about the resort or excursions.

The beach is spectacular with excellent snorkeling right off the beach. Renting beach chairs and umbrellas is expensive. We did it one day, it cost $40 for 2 chairs and an umbrella. The next day we got beach mats in Lahaina for $1.49. We took them to the beach at the resort and elsewhere on the island, when we went exploring. There is a boardwalk that runs all the way along Ka'anapali beach. My daughter and I took the most memorable morning walks while the boys slept in.

You can also Whale watch right from the beach during the Winter months. It is so spectacular to see these amazing creatures.

Thanks to the Westin for making us feel like we were coming home each day. We cannot wait to return to Maui and this beautiful resort.

LC_Ohana - Nov 18th, 2009
We were recently at the Westin Kaanpalai Ocean Resort Villas in Kaanapali Maui and loved it. The freedom to be on Kaanapali Beach and spend time with our extended family (brought grandparents as tag-along babysitters). We stayed in a 2-bedroom more +villa (one studio plus one-bedroom villa), so we had plenty of space for everyone to spread out and not be on top of one another. I stayed with my husband and 3yo daughter in the one-bedroom and my parents stayed in the studio, so they could have their morning coffee without waking us. All rooms have king heavenly beds, including the sleeper sofa for our daughter, although she continually moved into our bed in the middle of the night. Having two kitchens with a microwave and large refrigerator in each villa was a great advantage, plus we went home with clean laundry as each unit has a stackable washer/dryer. The housekeepers even gave us laundry detergent and dryer sheets - and they put our dirty dishes from the sink into the dishwasher while we were out playing in the sun.

As for the location, we did miss being closer to Whaler's Village and the action, but found our rental car or the free shuttle service worked fine for when we did want to get away. We really did not want to leave the hotel, as the beach is great for snorkeling, and the pools are fantastic (read: heated for blue-lipped kids). Plenty of shade umbrellas around the pools, and separate areas where we could be loud and splashing with kids, or quiet and reserved with more adults. We could not keep our daughter off the pirate ship play pool. There is a kids camp for 1/2 day and full day, but we did not use it, so cannot personally recommend it, but the center looked like fun. We did participate in some of the evening family activities including hula performances, outdoor movies and s'mores by the oceanfront firepit.

The rates were a little higher than most other condos, but well worth it. There is not a resort charge like most Maui hotels, but they do charge for parking your car. Everything else we ever needed or wanted was right on-site, including a grocery store, DVDs to rent for the in-room DVD players, spa and fitness center, free use of poolside gas grills and picnic tables, plus some really great sunsets. Next time, we'll take a drive over to Hana for a family hike...

Already planning another trip back in the winter for whale watching season!
