Wichita, Kansas is filled with family-friendly attractions and activities all families will love. Interestingly enough, this "big city" started as a trading post/meeting spot for Indians and other nomadic peoples before evolving into a destination for cattle drives in the 1870s. With the decline of the cattle industry, Wichita evolved into a major player in the grain and oil industries. During World War II, the city became a major manufacturing center for aircraft, a role it continues to maintain given it produces 70 percent of U.S. general aviation aircraft, earning it the nickname of "Air Capital of the World."

Through the years of Wichita's growth, the city also developed its arts, cultural and entertainment offerings, and today it claims 24 attractions, 36 museums, 35 art galleries and 20 live theaters. No wonder it has so much to offer families! With its history, it's no surprise that Wichita has some quality museums and attractions dedicated to that history, but this destination also features some fantastic animal and nature attractions, plus a wealth of sporting events and activities. Tie that in with a large number of mouthwatering restaurants and an equally large number of welcoming accommodations, and you'll find no reason not to visit Wichita, Kansas for your next family getaway.
