Off the grid getaway

My son and I stayed in Cabin 5 while visiting Big Bend National Park and we had a great visit. The cabin is nestled in beautiful terrain with spectacular sunsets and night sky full of stars. The Manager was super friendly. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and hiking the terrain behind the cabin. Disclaimer: If you to stay connected or pampered, this place is not for you. No WiFi or cell service at the cabin. Shower water pressure was a mere trickle which was the only reason I didn’t give five stars. However, splendid views made up for modest accommodations.

Convenient Location to Big Bend Nat'l Park & Ranch State Park

The price isn't bad for what you get, but you have to go in with your eyes wide open. The place is run by a widow woman who is a hoot! She's trying to hold it together with her daughter, but it does need some major updating. We stayed in #5 which only has a double bed which wasn't very comfortable. The place is clean, not counting the black widow spider hanging on the outside of the trailer. The whole area is running very low on water (a lot of wells are dry) including in the parks, so water rationing is a must. The water from the shower came out at a trickle, which was very frustrating. We complained and she immediately sent someone up, but he did no more than change the shower head, which did absolutely nothing. The water came out either cold or hot, shower still needs fixing. There is no cell service unless you go into Terlingua. She does provide complimentary wifi if you drive down to the front office and sit on the front porch. The trailer had a stove and oven, refrigerator, TV, love-seat sofa, table and chairs. If utensils or pots and pans missing, she'll provide upon request and say "someone must have needed them more than me." It is beautiful, quiet, private, and if no moon very dark at night. This is the part of the country to see the stars at night.
