Good and bad

by Craig B

Okay so we'll start off with the good they hotel room was spotless okay that's the end of the good here goes to the bad when I arrived the office was closed around 12 noon the housekeeper I found went to go try to find somebody evidently she found father of the girl that supposed to be running the place he didn't have any idea how to process me so he said here's the key and you have to come back later or tomorrow to settle the bill the room was right on the beach but the Dune they built was 18 ft tall so you couldn't see anything because I live in New Jersey I understand this there were massive construction vehicles everyday in the parking lot moving giant steel poles onto beach for a new Seawall they were building I had to move my car multiple times everyday and the noise was unbearable we made the best of it even though the $300 for two days seemed a little excessive I could have got a room at Harrah's for $29 a day

Great location and that's it

by HappyTravelNJ

SUMMARY – Great location and that's it
For what I got, grossly overpaid at $162/night. Location is perfect, which my priority when booking. I mistakenly assumed at that price and with TripAdvisor 4.5 stars I would get at least Super 8 Motel “amenities.” Profound mystery how this property is rated 4.5 stars.

POSITIVES – Good location and clean
Location: Ideal, right on the beach and with a direct walkway to the boardwalk.
Cleanliness: Everything appeared clean and daily housekeeping was effective. Left housekeeping a good tip since none of the NEGATIVES are their fault.
Beach badges: Provided at front desk
A/C: Reasonably effective, tolerable noise level
Parking: Dedicated spot is directly in front of room.
Owner & staff: Super nice and entirely sympathetic, but unable to help in any way whatsoever.

NEGATIVES – Fails on minimum expectations
Shower: Water pressure makes a drinking fountain seem like a fire hose. Don’t plan to shower during your stay. When I raised the issue was told this was normal water pressure and that actually it gets progressively even worse further from the office and in the direction of the beach. Ability to shower is not a bonus “amenity” but an absolute minimum I expect, and certainly at $162/night. Not sure what made me more irate, the drip-drip shower or the owner saying that's normal. [ -2.0 stars ]
Refrigerator: None! Can’t remember anyplace I’ve stayed in last 20 years without a fridge. [ -0.5 stars ]
Microwave: See above. [Irritating, but no separate deduction]
Wifi: Non-existent. Seemed to be functional in some parts of the property, but not my room. [ -0.5 stars ]
Door and Windows: Made of tilting glass slats that are not even a little sound-proof [Noise was mostly tolerable, so no separate deduction]
Blow dryer: None in room. Wife obtained one from front office. Dryer said “1500” on the barrel (as in watts?), but couldn’t blow over a flea. [Comical, but no separate deduction]

NEUTRAL BUT EMBARRASSING [No deductions]
Overall room décor: Mom & pop decorating on a $10 budget from a 1950’s magazine, but innocuous
Bathroom: Beat-up fixtures and tile that was already embarrassing in 1970
Pool: The size of a large bathtub

CONCLUSION – Very poor value, much better options available
Acceptable if you can book for <$100 and plan on only using the bed & parking space, and absolutely nothing else. Decision to book here was based on the 4.5 star TripAdvisor rating, so felt compelled to leave a review making it clear this property at $162/night fails to meet rock bottom minimum expectations.
