Reviews

Good location, helpful staff, but can be noisy

by Ron R

The Yankee Peddler is an old building (1830's I think) and has much character but does not have the facilities a modern hotel would have. The big advantage is the location, just a short walk to the historic centre of Newport. Our room was in the Carriage House, right by the road and there was traffic noise and the noise of passers-by. A room in the main house might be better. Breakfast was plain, but substantial. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and helped organise parking for everyone in the small car park.

Looks are deceiving

We recently spent two nights at Yankee Peddler in one of the rooms in the carriage house. Upon arrival I was a little concerned in seeing the outside of the building where our room was but was pleasantly surprised once we entered. It was spacious and comfortable (except for the wicker settee that is in desperate need of new cushions!). We were lucky to have quiet neighbors because you hear every creak and groan of people walking and using the stairs. A storm was parked off the coast the two days we were there and we experienced 30+ mph winds and horizontal rain. Luckily we had rain gear so we could still walk everywhere in town within 5-15 minutes. Breakfast was just okay but we did get fresh from the oven muffins and croissants our first morning. Bagels, toast, dry cereal, hard boiled eggs and oatmeal were the main offerings.
