American Quarter Horse Heritage Center & Museum

2601 I-40 East at Quarter Horse Dr, Amarillo, TX

Horse enthusiasts will love this pretty Amarillo museum. The American Quarter horse is a specific American breed of horse that performs best at sprinting short distances. It’s the most popular horse breed in the U.S. and is best known as a race horse, work horse or rodeo horse.

Families are greeted in the museum by the Hall of Fame, displaying horses and people who made the breed famous. Families can head to the theater for a 10-minute video on the history of the American Quarter horse, which explains how the breed came to be. A visiting exhibit offers a variety of themes like “Hard Work and Horse Power,” which shows how the breed has been a great work horse through the years, from emergency services to farming.

Kids will love the hands-on educational area, where they can watch, listen and touch while learning about horse health, tools, and tackle, and even see the inside of a horse through the moving X-ray exhibit.

Families could spend between an hour or two here.
