Antelope Canyon

Page, 86040, AZ

Antelope Canyon is located near Lake Powell in Page, Arizona, near the Utah border. The majestic canyons have made appearances in numerous Westerns and films, including “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” and in order to see the canyon’s beauty, there are a number of rules and regulations. The canyon is split into the Upper and Lower Canyons, and both require tour guides to visit. You will have to pay to enter the canyon and park in either Upper or Lower Canyon lots (or pay twice if you want to see both), and then it is an additional per-person fee to take the guided tour, which is done by open-air trucks. Each tour allows for a maximum of 2 hours inside the canyons.

The Upper Canyon ascends about 4,000 feet above sea level, with canyon walls rising 120 feet from the streambed; the Lower Canyon features spiral rock arches. Hiking is permitted along the Rainbow Bridge Trail, which is the world’s highest natural bridge, as well as the lower part of the East Waterholes. Hiking permits must be obtained through the Navajo Nation. Guided hikes are available for the upper part of the East Waterhole. Because tours are guided and you are limited to what you may bring into the area, the tours are better suited for bigger kids.

Antelope Canyon is open late March through October, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and November through early March, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Admission is $8 per person, 8 years and older; children 7 and under are free.
