The Antique Boat Museum

The Antique Boat Museum

750 Mary Street, Clayton, NY

Antiques and nautical artifacts might seem to spell s-n-o-o-z-e for kids, but when you take advantage of its special kids programs and exhilarating “Ride the River” speed boat tours, this maritime history hall in Clayton, New York is a delightful exception. The 45-minute rides aboard a Hackercraft triple-cockpit runabout offer speed, comfort and a unique vantage point to take in Thousand Islands history. Tours (cost additional) depart six times daily, from Memorial Day to Columbus Day.

During the summer months, families can steer a traditional St. Lawrence skiff on French Creek Bay. Skiff excursions are included with admission to the museum, which boasts the largest collection of wooden boats in North America. Be sure to check out the “Quest for Speed” exhibit, which features a kids’ corner. For summer visitors, the museum offers a junior sailing program, summer camp sessions and knot tying lessons. The museum and paths are stroller and wheelchair accessible.
