Aventuras del Sarapiqui

Aventuras del Sarapiqui

Carretera Principal, 300 mt de Selva Verde Lodge, Chilamate

Located an hour and a half from San Jose, the tropical rainforests of Sarapiqui and the Sarapiqui River are screaming for adventurous families to visit. The many exhilarting tours available to families here are all outstanding and will have your adrendaline pumping. Adventure awaits even the least adventourous of people at Sarapiqui! These highly recommended tours will leave any fears behind in the rainforest or on the river and have you and the kids feeling like you can conquer any obstacle.

Families can choose from whitewater rafting, canoeing or even tubing down the Sarapiqui River. The class two and three river definitely has some rapids that will have you screaming with excitement as you paddle your raft down the river. An experienced guide thoroughly explains all the safety guidelines and you’re outfitted with a life vest and helmet. The guide steers your raft and helps to paddle, but everyone inside the raft is expected to participate and help paddle during the two-hour experience. A short break along the river allows everyone to take a quick dip in the water and rest for a bit and even allows for a chance to jump off a small embankment into the river (highly recommended even for those who wouldn’t think they could do such a thing). No experience is needed to go rafting and you do not need to know how to swim to enjoy a rafting tour. Class four rafting is also available for the more experienced. River sandals and bathing suits are recommended and everyone on the raft will absolutely get wet. Leave your electronics behind.

Visitors sail high above the tropical rainforests and across the Sarapiqui River on this two-hour zip-lining tour. Experienced and certified guides take your group through 12 (or more) zip-lines and the final run is about 7,000 feet long! Families will fly from tree platform to tree platform, as well as hike through wooded trails to reach some lines. Everyone is outfitted with helmets and gloves and given full safety instructions before flying through the air. Kids as young 8 years old are welcome to zip-line. Closed toe shoes and longer shorts or pants are recommended as the the harness does wrap around your upper thighs.

Mountain biking, horseback riding and rainforest hiking are also available at Sarapiqui for those who are interested in keeping their feet dry and on the ground. Birds, monkeys and other wildlife are sure to be spotted along the way.

Times vary and reservations are recommended.
