Love exploring abandoned places? There are several ghost towns to visit around Death Valley. Ballarat, in the late 1800s, was home to 400 to 500 people, functioning mainly as a supply town for prospectors and work crews at nearby mines. It was also the place to come for a party, as it was home to no less than seven saloons. Today, most of the original buildings are gone, but there are still a few left to see. Chat with the caretaker, who’s happy to share information about the area and sell you a snack or cold drink.
Ultimately, if you’re passing by or are touring the country in search of ghost towns, it’s a cool stop–but most people wouldn’t make a special trip.
