A quieter stretch of sand than the busy Santa Monica and Venice-area beaches, Belmont Shore has fewer crowds and less turbulent waters due to the area’s inset location. Families will appreciate the pedestrian and bicycle walkways, as well as the proximity to a wide range of restaurants. Though plagued by the same problems as other Southern California beaches (vagrants and litter), families just looking to dip their toes in the ocean may find this the ideal spot.
Teens and older kids will also find this a good place to try kayaking or wind surfing for the first time, too. The family dog is welcome at Rosie’s Dog Beach, where furry family members can frolic in the water off-leash. Open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
