The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute teaches a powerful lesson about the Civil Rights Movement and Birmingham’s role in the events that shaped America. Best for families with older children (tweens and teens), the museum tells its story through videos, artifacts and interactive exhibits. Located downtown, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is situated next to another important figure in history: the 16th Street Baptist Church.

Admission
Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for seniors, $6 for college students, $5 for non-local kids in grades four through 12 and free for kids 3 and under. Local students in grades four through 12 get into the museum free of charge. Admission is free on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Hours
It’s open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The museum is closed on Mondays.
