Cannon Beach History Center

1387 South Spruce St., Cannon Beach, OR

Find out why the place is called Cannon Beach, at this fun little museum in the middle of town. Kids will quickly spot the item that inspired the town’s name (hint: it doesn’t fire anymore), among other objects and displays that tell about the history of the area.

From William Clark and Sacagawea meeting members of the Tillamook tribe in 1806 to the 1964 tsunami that changed the geography of the town, there are enough stories here to interest most members of the family — at least for a little while. The museum is a nice break from the sun and sand, especially on a rainy day. Admission is free!
