Carnegie Museum of Natural History

4400 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh, 15213, PA

One of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, the Museum of Natural History is among the top natural history museums in the country. Kids will love the large collection of real dinosaur bones, the fourth largest in North America. They’ll be astonished at the giant T-Rex that towers over everything in its shadow. Children can also get an up-close look at dinosaur bones being prepared for display in the PaleoLab, or practice being an archaeologist and dig on their own for hands-on fun. You’ll learn all about American Indians at the Hall of American Indians through historic and contemporary artifacts, storytelling, videos and interactive computer activities.

The museum is closed on Tuesdays, but open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Sundays, the museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. During summer hours (Memorial Day through Labor Day), the museum opens on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Members and children under 3 are free. Admission after 4 p.m. on Thursdays is reduced.
