Carolinas Aviation Museum

4672 1st Flight Dr., Charlotte, NC

Who can forget the “Miracle on the Hudson,” when modern- day superhero Captain Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger — realizing he’d lost both engines after flying into a flock of geese — glided his Airbus A320 onto the Hudson River, saving all 155 passengers and crew members?

Today that very Airbus is the centerpiece of the Carolinas Aviation Museum that sits on the grounds of the Charlotte Douglas Airport. Aviation enthusiasts of every age will love this two-hour visit, when kids can climb into multiple planes including a fighter jet and a commercial airplane. The friendly staff also has scavenger hunts for little and big kids with a small prize at the end.

While there’s no dining on the premises, you can spread a picnic out in front.
