Castle Sababurg

Im Reinhardswald 34369 Hofgeismar, Sababurg

Want to bring Sleeping Beauty to life for your child? Castle Hotel/Restaurant Sababurg is at your service. Knights in armor, a picturesque outdoor cafe –overlooking the German countryside — and a castle garden with plenty of pink roses in honor of the beloved Briar Rose make this a must-visit. This 14th century castle hotel and restaurant is the highlight of the Fairy Tale Road for many.

Although the castle gardens are only open to hotel guests at night, during the day, these manicured gardens are open to the public.

Although there’s no evidence the Brothers Grimm based the story on this castle, the owners of this castle hotel claim that after reading the Grimm story, the surrounding townspeople began referring to it as the Sleeping Beauty Castle. Today, it has become an almost amusement park-like attraction, devoted to the tale of Sleeping Beauty. There are roses everywhere- from the castle garden to the rose jam sold in the gift shop. There’s even a rose tea held every afternoon, with rose muffins, rose jam and rose cream to put on your pastries. On Sunday afternoons, the fairy tale is played out by costumed characters in the castle courtyard. The English version is at 4:00 p.m.
