Connecting Buda and Pest are a number of bridges crossing the Danube River that separates the two, but the most famous of bridges is the Chain Bridge, Szechenyi Landchid. Built in the mid-1850s, the bridge was the first permanent stone bridge to connect the cities, and the second permanent bridge on the whole of the Danube. It earned its nickname for the iron chains. The bridge is open to traffic, as well as pedestrians who want to get the best views of Buda Castle and Parliament.
