Up for a hike? Walking up the hill to the Citadel will get your heart pumping–and reward you with a great view of the city and the river. Located atop Gellert Hill, the fortress was built in 1851, where it garrisoned Austrian troops for several decades, and was occupied by Soviet troops during the Hungarian Revolution. At the Citadel, you’ll find a collection of Soviet weaponry, as well as interesting statues. Nearby is the Gellert Thermal Baths complex.
