Attraction

Coeur d’Alene’s Old Mission State Park

31732 S. Mission Rd., Exit 39 off of I-90), Cataldo, 83810, ID

About 20 minutes from downtown Coeur d’Alene, this 18-acre state park is a great source of history about the region and the Coeur d’Alene tribe. The park is home to the oldest building in Idaho, the Mission of the Sacred Heart, built between 1850 and 1853 by Jesuit missionaries and members of the Coeur d’Alene tribe. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy by the hilltop scenery, and check the calendar of events on the park’s website — the park is frequently used for tribal ceremonies and powwows by the Coeur d’Alene people. The park is adjacent to the 72-mile Coeur d’Alene biking trail, so bring your bikes along if you have them and get some great exercise along the banks of the Kahnderosa River.
