Detroit Institute of Arts

Attraction

Detroit Institute of Arts

5200 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI

Once a political battleground during the Detroit bankruptcy (should the art be sold to help the city’s budget?), the DIA proudly stands as one of the most striking collections of Van Goghs, Picassos and Rodins anywhere in America. Not to be outdone, the array of American Art ranks 3rd in the country!

Tip: let your kids pick out a few postcards of art pieces in the gift shop BEFORE exploring the museum, then make your visit to the DIA a scavenger hunt to find the art featured on their souvenirs. This will make the Detroit Institute of Arts (and other museums) a playground for your entire family.
