Dinosaur National Monument

11625 East 1500 South, Jensen, 84035, UT

It may be three hours from Salt Lake City and Park City, but if you have the time or are considering a national park tour through Utah, don’t miss Dinosaur National Monument in Vernal, Utah. The park straddles Utah and Colorado, but the Utah side features dinosaur fossils and can be visited from late spring into early fall. More than 1,500 fossils are located in this quarry, which features an exhibit hall filled with fossils, including an entire rock wall making up a half of the building, covered in fossils. Take the tram from the visitor’s center up to the exhibit hall, then hike the Fossil Discovery Trail down, checking out the scenery, the wildlife and more fossils. Kids can take part in Junior Ranger activities as well as Junior Paleontologist activities to earn one or two badges for their collections.
