Doubleday Field

1 Doubleday Court, , Cooperstown, NY

Doubleday field is located just a short walk from the Baseball Hall of Fame and myth has it that baseball was invented here. The field was first established as a playing venue in 1920, and then the grandstand was added as a Works Progress Administration project in the 1930s; Works Progress Administration was a Depression-era government program started by President Franklin Roosevelt to construct civic building projects. The annual Induction Ceremony is held in late July at the Clark Sports Center, a natural amphitheater located about a mile from the museum. During the summer months, there are festivals and youth baseball tournaments.
