This is an ideal stop for any age. It’s a wonderful, quick, five- to 10-minute tour of a working spice plantation in the Gouyave area, a bit further out from the main area of St. George’s, where the cruise shops dock. Many people and families add this tour onto a half-day or full-day tour of the island.
It’s so easy to walk in and immediately be transfixed by the aromas and sights of the women working with the spices. The nutmeg wafts through the air as the history, purpose and presence of Grenada’s spice is explained. There is also a spice co-op that is a fascinating part of the Dougaldston Estate.
Please note there is no photography inside where the workers are present. There is a gift shop onsite with a handful of items infused with the local spices.
