Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

Ohio Dr SW, Washington, 20242, DC

Franklin Delano Roosevelt is heavily favored as America’s best president. At the very least, he holds, and will forever hold (unless the Constitution’s 22nd Amendment is repealed), the record for serving the longest amount of time as President (4,422 days, for the record).

Under his Presidency, and due largely in part to the implementation of many of his policies, America recovered from the greatest financial collapse its people have ever faced, won the second World War and restored faith and momentary unity in an otherwise divided nation.

It is with great reasoning that the FDR Memorial is one of the most popular. Visitors will find a beautiful array of waterfalls, boulder arrangements, trees and flowerbeds.

There are also beautiful sculptures of Roosevelt, the First Lady and even his iconic dog, Fala, along with scenes depicting his famous Fireside Chats and Great Depression era breadlines. There are also several slabs of stone with inscriptions of famous quotes from the 32nd President, including one of his most famous:

“I have seen war. I have seen war on land and sea. I have seen blood running from the wounded. I have seen the dead in the mud. I have seen cities destroyed… I have seen children starving. I have seen the agony of mothers and wives. I hate war.”
