Glen Canyon Dam

Tonalea Coconino County, AZ

Glen Canyon Dam is the reason Lake Powell exists and is quite the site to behold. You’ll have to drive over the dam overlook bridge to get to the Lake Powell recreation area, entering Utah from Page, or enter Arizona from Utah. Since you’re driving right by anyway, stopping at the dam is an easy thing to do.

You can enter into the Carl Hayden Visitors Center (free to enter) to learn some of the history of the dam’s creation. There is a small gift shop, a video, various signage, and a lookout station of the dam outside the back of the Visitor’s Center. Additionally, there is chain link fencing and sidewalk on each side of the bridge. So, you can walk across the bridge to get the full scope of the size and depth of the dam, canyon, and river below.
