Attraction

Grand Rapids Art Museum

101 Monroe Center, Grand Rapids, 49503, MI

Take shelter from the elements in the spacious and bright GRAM, the country’s first LEED-certified art museum. In keeping with the city’s furniture design, one of the strengths of the museum is its design exhibits, highlighting the work of Eames and other great designers. During Drop-In Family Saturdays, revel in hands-on art-making activities for children and families, kid-friendly tours and sketching in the galleries — every Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Free family activity guides are also available daily at GRAM’s Guest Services desk. These guides allow young visitors to become gumshoes while delving into the galleries. Using riddles and clues, puzzles and haikus, kids and adults search for highlighted works of art and receive a prize upon completion. Tuesdays are free during the day and Thursdays are free from 5 to 9 p.m. Depending on the weather, visitors can skate (skate rentals are available onsite) or listen to live music at Rosa Parks Circle, right outside the museum’s doors.
