Attraction

Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Researc

505 Guana River Road , Ponte Vedra Beach, FL

This 74,000-acre nature reserve offers a little something for everyone. Fishing, hiking, boating and more can be found at GTM. There is a large fishing area with public restrooms nearby for those who want to snag the catch of the day. Boat ramps can also be found throughout the reserve. Several hiking trails ranging from a half-mile to 3 miles are available to explore (remember the bug spray). Restrooms and picnic areas can be found along portions of the trails. Several beaches, with free parking, can also be found within the reserve. Families can take guided hikes on the trails or beaches and learn about the reserve or look for a scheduled, hands-on presentation to learn about whales or sea turtles.

Kids will also love a stop at the GTM Reserve Environmental Education Center, where they will find hands-on wildlife and marine life exhibits. Interactive maps show where the animals mirgrate and a short movie clip explains in even more detail. Turtles and fish can be found in small aquariums; look through a telescope to see an eagle nesting across the reserve. Kids can see shark’s teeth up close and learn about water pollution and how to prevent it. Families could easily spend an hour inside the Education Center; restrooms are also inside. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
