Attraction

Halifax Citadel National Historic Site of Canada

5425 Sackville St., Halifax, Nova Scotia

Drive the hill to the Citadel (it’s too strenuous to walk with youngsters) or better yet, view the area via Harbour Hopper Tours. The former fort, built in 1749 to protect the people of Halifax, commands the best views of the city. Another great way to explore the national park? Halifax Citadel Ghost Tours, which take place July to October.

Hours
It’s open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in July and August, closing at 5 p.m. the rest of the year. Ghost tours grant visitors access to the park later in the night (typically departing after 8 p.m.).
