Heritage Park Historical Village

1900 Heritage Dr SW, Calgary

This vast historic village, considered one of North America’s largest living history museums, is situated on 127 acres and takes families back to a simpler time. The history here dates from the early 1860s fur trading times to the 1950s automobile industry. There are a variety of fun spots for families to enjoy here, but they are very spread out across the village. Make sure to bring the stroller and walking shoes!

There are also a variety of modes of transportation available to reach each point of interest, and all are included in your entrance fee. Families can hop aboard an actual steam engine train that takes visitors to different train stations throughout the park, where you can hop off and explore. Kids who love trains will love climbing aboard this engine. A horse-drawn wagon will trot visitors through the village and there is also a ferry boat that takes families around the lake.

The kids will love the old-fashioned amusements like the mini Ferris wheel, merry-go-round and swings. Parents may enjoy the Gasoline Alley Museum more, as it contains numerous pieces of automobile memorabilia dating back to WWII. Stroll the village where everyone is dressed in period clothes and pop inside the drug store, ranch house or newspaper printing press to see what’s going on inside. Families could spend a full or half day exploring the village.
