This hatchery run by the California Department of Fish and Game raises millions of trout every year, which are planted in the region’s lakes and streams. Millions of trout eggs are also produced here for distribution to other state hatcheries. It’s fun to see fish along the “raceways” in their various developmental stages. My preschooler was delighted to see the trout rush toward the surface at feeding time. The site is free to visit and is a quick detour off of Hwy. 395, near the Mammoth-Yosemite airport.
