Nathaniel Hawthorne made the unique House of Seven Gables famous in his book of the same name. The house is a National Historic Landmark and represents Salem’s history. The home is open for tours through the mansion and gardens, as well as Hawthorne’s birthplace, which was moved to the site. The attraction also includes Kid’s Cover at the 1830s Counting House and a museum store inside the 1655 Retire Beckett House.

The House of Seven Gables is open year-round from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with later closings at 7 p.m. July through October).
