The country’s national park surrounds the volcano that created the islands of Guadeloupe. Tour groups will take visitors to the park, but those with rental cars can easily find the park. (Parking is limited, so go early!) This is truly a rugged park; there are no restrooms or restaurants so bring a picnic lunch.

Hikers should also bring layers to wear, as the climb can result in various temperatures and go from dry to wet to dry again; you should also wear sneakers or closed-toe shoes for the hike. At the top, visitors will see the volcano’s steam coming from its crater.
