La Tovara National Park

Near the town of San Blas in north Nayarit, Nayarit

If you know birds or would like to introduce your children to the winged creatures of Mother Nature, make plans to visit La Tovara National Park. This is the winter home of nearly 80 percent of the migratory birds from western North America. The park is a little more than 1,600 acres of primarily mangroves and marshland. The best way to see it is by a boat tour, which can be booked in the villages of La Aguada and El Conchal. In addition to the birds, you’ll see lots of crocodiles and reproductions of floating homes that some of the region’s first settlers lived in.
