The Lagoon Islands

Murano, Burano and Torcello, Venice

If you have more than a day or two in Venice, be sure to hop a water bus to one of its lagoon islands. Murano is one of the most popular to visit, as it is the home to Murano glass and shops selling the hand-blown glass often have glass-blowing exhibits in their back rooms (they charge a fee to watch.) Burano is known for its Venetian lace, and Torcello is mostly a nature preserve. If it’s warm, head to The Lido, which provides a stretch of beach and resorts that beg for visitors to sit back and relax along the Adriatic Sea.
