Attraction

Lake Superior Railroad Museum

506 West Michigan Street, Duluth, MN

Perfectly housed in a historic 1892 Depot, this train-centric museum draws kids and adults who love model trains, train history and the chance to climb aboard some of the cars in what’s considered the Midwest’s largest indoor train collection. A recreated turn-of-the-century downtown with vintage shops gives the Depot an authentic feel, as do the mighty steam engines-some of which chugged loads of iron ore across northeastern Minnesota’s Iron Range to Duluth’s harbor.

Summer visitors can hop a train for a narrated North Shore Scenic Railroad tour as well. The most popular options for families include the 1.5-hour Duluth Zephyr or the special music and pizza train that’s a 2.5-hour ride. Look for special events, such as the holiday ride aboard a festively lit train with story time at the Depot.
