Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory

800 W. Main Street, Louisville, 40202, KY

This is where the official bats for Major League baseball have been crafted since 1884, so touring this museum and factory is like stepping back in time. A 120-foot-tall baseball bat (the world’s tallest) leans against the entrance to the building, so the fun begins before you even step inside. Exhibits include one of the notched bats Babe Ruth used during his 60-home-run season of 1927 and one of three Louisville Sluggers that Joe DiMaggio used during his famous 56-game hitting streak in 1941.

There’s even a batting cage where you can hold bats used by baseball legends like Ruth, DiMaggio, and Ted Williams (as well as current stars). You’ll even find an immense 17-ton sculpture of a baseball glove carved out of Kentucky limestone. During the factory tour, you can watch Louisville sluggers being cranked out (the factory makes a million bats a year). At the end, you’ll also receive your own mini Louisville Slugger as a souvenir. If you had something a wee bit bigger in mind, you can order a personalized bat with your kid’s name engraved on it.

Be sure to also check out the Louisville Slugger Walk of Fame. It’s a mile-long series of bronze home plates along Main Street (stretching from the museum to Louisville Slugger Field) that honor baseball’s legendary players. Each plate lists the career highlights of a different honored player, displayed with a bronze caste of the player’s own Louisville Slugger.
