Loveland Ski Area in Georgetown, Colorado, offers families 1,800 acres of skiable terrain, with 100 hike able acres, 93 trails, and nine lifts. Families can ski and snowboard, with a majority of the slopes being at the intermediate or advanced level. Nevertheless, ski lessons are offered for all ages, including little ones as young as 4 years old. The ski area has a terrain park for teens who want to shred the snow, too. While children, teens and adults are on the mountain, little ones between 12 months and 12 years who don’t want to ski the slopes can spend time in the Loveland Basin Day Care Center. Activities include games, movies, crafts and fun in the snow, of course. The Day Care Center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lifts are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays.
There is no lodging on the mountain, but Loveland offers deals for ski and stay packages at nearby hotels. Enjoy comfortable accommodations at the Alpine Slopes Lodge, the Chateau Chamonix, Comfort Suites at Evergreen Parkway or the Georgetown Mountain Inn.
Onsite dining is available at six cafeterias, cafes and bars. Loveland Deli serves up sandwiches and quick bites. The Basin Cafeteria is open for breakfast and lunch. The Wedge Bar is open for lunch and serves burgers and sandwiches. The Rathskeller is better known for its beer, but it also serves chili, hot dogs, and soup. The Valley Cafeteria is open for breakfast and lunch daily. The Fireside Room serves lunch with options ranging from burgers and sandwiches to salads and quesadillas.
Regular season, full-day tickets are $63 for adults and teens ages 15 and older, $28 for kids between ages 6 and 14, and free for children 5 and under. Half-day tickets are available, as are season passes and flex tickets, which allow guests to ski any four consecutive hours each day, rather than waiting for the half-day time slots to start.
Loveland Ski Area is about 53 miles from Denver. Families should fly into Denver International Airport and rent a car. Parking is free at the ski area and a free shuttle service is offered for the ski area daily from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., so getting around will be a breeze.
