Lynn Meadows Discovery Center

Attraction

Lynn Meadows Discovery Center

246 Dolan Ave., Gulfport, MS

Opened in 1998, the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center was the first children’s museum to open in the state of Mississippi. Housed in the former Mississippi City Elementary School building — which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015 — the center features hands-on, interactive centers and activities where children can learn as they play. For instance, they can work as a hotel clerk, checking in guests at a 1890s Victorian hotel, or they can head for the docks, where they can drag for shrimp or unload incoming cargo. There’s even a toddler area with a reading nook, a home “center” and a schoolhouse.

But the fun is not limited to the interior of the building. Outside, kids will love exploring the treehouse village — home to three treehouses, climbing board the wooden train or taking off for space in the rocket ship. Parents will love the shady area that features some picnic tables, benches and a larger seating area under the trees near the building’s entrance.
