The most-often visited plantation in Charlestown is Magnolia, which was founded in 1676 and opened its doors for visits in 1870. Owned by a member of the same Drayton family that held Drayton Hall, Magnolia Plantation is open year-round, but with longer hours during the spring, summer and fall months.

Visitors can tour the gardens, the plantation house, the plantation’s slave cabins, a zoo and nature center, and the swamp gardens. A tour train provides a way to see the entire grounds without walking, leaving every half-hour for 45-minute tours. A one-hour boat tour of the rice fields and swamp is also available.

Guests will find breakfast, sandwiches and snacks available the Peacock Café. Children under 6 are free.
