This historic home, museum and gardens are a must-see when visiting Charleston. The 65-acre estate is home to the country’s oldest landscaped gardens, which features centuries-old florals, including camellias, magnolias, roses and azaleas.

As a National Historic Landmark, the House Museum, built in 1755, showcases the life of the Middleton family, of whom one member was a signee of the Declaration of Independence. Also on the grounds is the 18th and 19th century Plantation Stableyards, a living history museum with weavers, blacksmiths, carpenters and more.
