Mission San Luis de Apalachee

Mission San Luis de Apalachee

2100 W Tennessee St, Tallahassee, FL

The year is 1633 at Mission San Luis de Apalachee; that’s when this now-historic settlement was constructed. Today’s families can visit the beautiful mission — a National Historic Landmark in the heart of Tallahassee — to learn what Apalachee life was like for the 1,400-some residents who called Mission San Luis home. Costumed actors tell the stories of the Apalachee men and women through demonstrations in basket weaving, cooking, blacksmithing and more. Families can get a hands-on experience of their own by attending one of the mission’s special events (additional fee); programs include archery and even cannon firing!

Families can self-tour Mission San Luis, though guides will give you a more comprehensive experience. Plan to spend at least two hours here.

Mission San Luis is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday; it’s closed on Mondays.
