Dedicated in 2003, on the centennial of powered flight, this monument adjoins the Outer Banks Visitor Bureau̢۪s Aycock Brown Welcome Center in Kitty Hawk. Set against the open sky of Kitty Hawk, where flight began, the monument is a reflective structure consisting of 14 wing-shaped stainless steel pylons varying in height from 10 to 20 feet in an orbit of 120 feet, the distance traveled by the Wright Brothers̢۪ on their first flight in 1903. The flat faces of the structures showcase engraved panels showcasing 100 significant accomplishments in aviation.
