Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park

Highways 160 and 163, Monument Valley, 84536, UT

Monument Valley is situated in both Arizona and Utah, stretching more than 90,000 acres. Here, rock formations climb up to 1,500 feet in height to create what appear to be monuments in the desert landscape. Many movies set in the West have been filmed in this valley, and its distinctive formations make a drive through the area fun for children who will be on the lookout for mittens, elephants and more.

Families can reach Monument Valley via Kayenta, Arizona, or Mexican Hat, Utah. Once inside, a 17-mile Valley Drive takes passengers by the most notable monuments within two hours. Jeep tours are also provided, as well as hikes, including the 3.3-mile Wildcat Trail. The View Hotel and restaurant is located within the park, as well as a visitor’s center.

The scenic drive is open in the summer from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the winter. Park entry is $20 for a vehicle with up to four visitors, and $35 for up to six. As part of the Navajo land, National Park passes are not accepted.
